Daffodil Farmer’s Talk

Len Tomlinson and Alan Mills

Alan Mills introduced the Whitegate Daffodil Farmer, Len Tomlinson, to the audience of approximately forty people.

The free talk, sponsored by the Weavererham Trust, was held at the Sea Scout hall on 13th February. The talk was given by Len Tomlinson who has worked at the family business of Whitegate Daffodil Farm for over 70 years.

Len presented a slide show of work on the farm over more than 100 years, and included some ‘colourful’ or ‘rustic’ anecdotes of his life on the farm. The pictures of some of the hundreds of daffodils varieties on the farm were very colourful and beautiful. Many had been bred by Len himself.

Following the death of a friend from cancer Len decided to do something for the people who had tended his friend so diligently and started the Daffodil Walks with proceeds going to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Len gives regular talks over the winter and has a cottage in Ireland where he indulges his other passion, horses.

The talk was followed by tea and biscuits when the audience were able to pose further questions.
